Gunvault GV2000C-STD Gun Safe Review | Quick Access No-Eyes Keypad

Gunvault GV2000C-STD

Gunvault GV2000C-STD Gun Safe

This Gunvault GV2000C-STD has to be one of the premium gun safes produced by the Gunvault Company. The company themselves have been around for 20 years and over those years they are constantly testing and improving their range.

Just by looking at this model you can tell that it is a quality product and that in itself can be a deterrent for the casual thief. Of course, looks isn’t everything and with this pistol safe that certainly isn’t the case as it also has a ton of great features which will benefit the owner.

Some of these features include a tamper resistant door with such a precise fitting that it would be a time consuming task to pry it open with basic tools. Also, there are various indicators and alerts to warn the owner of any problems such as an incorrect code.

Take a look at the review below as it runs through all the safes features pointing out the good and bad areas.

Who Will Benefit From Owning A Gunvault GV2000C-STD?

The simple and quick answer to that would be anyone who owns a couple of handguns and needs to secure them away from curious children or an opportunist thief. Anyone who has a lot of small valuables and needs somewhere secure to house them would also greatly benefit from this Gunvault safe.

This is not only a safe for guns and ammo. It was designed to protect your possessions  regardless of what they are. If they fit in the safe then you can rest assured they will be secure. It is not a “High” security safe meaning it probably won’t keep a professional thief out but due to its tight fitting door it will keep out a casual thief with no tools and little time.

Before buying a gun safe ask yourself why you need one. Do you just want a place to keep all your handguns in one orderly place? Are you concerned about your child finding your gun as so need to secure it out of reach? Is your main priority self-defense? Each answer could point you to a variety of different gun safes.

For the Gunvault GV2000C-STD it comes into its own regarding self-defense. If you are being burgled and want to protect yourself and your family you’re going to need to get to your gun fast. That requires a simple coding system, (Gunvault’s no-eyes keypad), and a fast opening door, (Gunvault spring-loaded door).

No need to worry about your child getting into the safe because when the programmable combination system is used properly it will keep young children out yet still allow access with the combination in seconds.

The Gunvault GV2000C-STD Construction And Design

The outside of the gun safe is constructed of 16-gauge steel. In layman’s terms, Steel is sheet metal and that thickness is called its gauge. The gauge of sheet metal ranges from 30 gauge to about 8 gauge. The larger the gauge number, the thinner the metal.

So as far as thickness goes for this safe it has roughly a middle gauge which is not bad at all considering its price. It has a size of 10.1 x 7.9 x 14 inches and weighs in at 14 pounds. This particular “Multi” version is big enough to take two medium sized semi-automatics with extra magazines and other extras.

With the weight not being so heavy you can take this Gunvault GV2000C-STD away with you in an RV if you decide to do some traveling. It would definitely benefit anyone who needs that peace of mind and safety when traveling in their vehicle. This option is also found to be so in the Barska Biometric Safe.

Find somewhere solid to mount the safe even in a truck or trunk of a car and you will have yourself a portable gun safe. To protect your firearms or valuables from getting scratched or damaged in transit there is a soft foam layer on the inside. I think that is a nice little touch which also adds to the quality of this design.

As an added bonus there is a shelf inside so that you can keep the contents more organized such as having one shelf for the gun and the other for your important documents or other valuables.

The Gunvault GV2000C-STD Foolproof Security

This gun safe has pry-resistant doors due to its precise fittings which make it virtually impossible to pry open with hand tools. The locking mechanism is of high strength and performs reliably.

There is a built-in computer which will detect repeated invalid keypad entries which in turn will block access. If there were invalid entry attempts the built-in tamper indicator will alert you and if you had the Deluxe model a motion detector with audio alarm would help guard against direct tampering.

This Gunvault safe can pretty much be mounted anywhere and in any direction. This is highly advisable to do as it adds that extra bit of security and will prevent anyone from walking away with the safe. Its knockout holes in the bottom can be used to permanently affix it to something solid without much trouble. You also have the option to use the high-strength security cable which will secure the safe in your home, car, RV, office, etc.

The Gunvault GV2000C-STD Extras

It seems like Gunvault have thought of everything as it has a unique No-Eyes Keypad which allows for quick access. The molded channels facilitate the ability to unlock this safe by touch in low light conditions. Not a bad idea.

You have battery power which will provide maximum security and easy portability. There is a power adaptor option on the Deluxe model but even so, you must still keep a set of batteries in the unit. This is only to keep the power going if you decide to remove and replace the power plug. The batteries are a safety precaution so as to keep your programmed code in memory. If you unplug the safe without the batteries the combination code will reset to default.

There are a couple of audio features that offer more options to the user. One is an audio feedback which confirms each correct keypad entry and the other is an audio disable option which adds the security of operating in silent mode.

Conclusion

This Gunvault GV2000C-STD and the Deluxe model have been around for a few years now and are still part of the company’s best sellers. With its many features and slick design you can see the reasons why.

It is well built, has interior protection for the contents and even though it is classed as a medium to small gun safe you can fit a fair few items into it without much trouble.

It is easy to use and has a fast door opener which is a big plus for anyone wanting to get to their gun fast in an emergency. It has its faults like any safe but generally they are not really worth worrying about.

Programming The Gunvault GV2000C-STD Access Code

With this Gunvault safe when setting up your new code there will be a beeping sound and a light flash with every keypad entry. This just helps to indicate that your choice has been registered. Here are the steps to follow in order to program a new code.

  1. First, you must enter the default access code to open the door.
  2. Locate the learn button, (Fig 1), press and hold for 2 seconds until you hear the beep. This indicates that the safe is in Learn Mode.
  3. Enter your new code.  While the light remains green press and hold the Learn button once more until you hear a beep and the light turns red.
  4. Enter your new code again and to confirm it hold the Learn button down once more for 2 seconds.
  5. At this point the green light will blink five times with five beeping sounds. This confirms that your new code has been accepted.

If you notice a red light blinking then this means an error has occurred and you will have to start over.

  1. I had my sister purchase a GV2000C STD in May for a graduation present I gave her. The batteries only last a few weeks. The third set, brand new Duracell Coppertop per the manual, lasted less than 2 months.
Just tried to use the email function at Gun Vault’s website and it errors out.
I noticed Live Chat and after two exchanges, the last being the last batteries I used, no response for several minutes.
Hmmm. Too late to return to place of purchase. I did leave my email address before I exited chat.
    We’ll see.
I have two Winchster eVaults, one 400 and one 600. The 600 is 2 years old and still has the original batteries I installed. The 600 has battery backup and AC adapter and it’s never had a problem.
Too bad they no longer make the Winchester eVaults.
