Trademark Home Dictionary Diversion Book Safe Review

Dictionary Diversion Book Design

This dictionary diversion book safe does exactly what it is supposed to and that is to act like a book. It isn’t a high end ultra-secure heavy home safe so don’t expect it to be like one. This book safe gives you the opportunity to stash some small belongings without having to worry about combinations or security codes. It is stupidly simple and works like a charm if placed in the right environment.

The complete book measures 2.25 x 6 x 9.5 inches, pretty much what you would expect a real dictionary to be. These books tend to be chunky and this stash safe certainly fits the bill. Its inside storage area measures 2 x 5.6 x 9 inches and is just big enough to fit quite a number of small items.

The book cover is blue with the title printed on the front. At a glance it does look like a real book with the actual hardcover hiding the safe box within. Superficially, the book safe will do a pretty good job of keeping your items safe from the searching eyes of a burglar and has a nice sturdy lock box inside.

The locking mechanism is a simple key lock and although it will keep out curious kids it will not stop a thief from breaking it open. Having said that, I did mention that this is not a high security safe; it is a diversion safe. So if all goes well a burglar shouldn’t even notice the thing in the first place.

The lock was not designed to keep a determined burglar out but then why would a thief try to open it there and then when they can just pick it up and walk out the door with it? If you need a high security safe this is definitely not it.

Is this Trademark Home Dictionary diversion book safe fireproof? No it is not fire or water safe so if you have items that need fire protection this is not the place to store them. If you require a fireproof safe check out the popular SentrySafe SFW123DSB Combination Fire-Safe.

Best Place to Store the Book Safe

Well, it is a book so ideally the best place would be on a book shelf amongst other books. There is no way a burglar is going to have the time to rummage through a bookshelf in the hope that he will find “something.”

If you don’t have a bookshelf then you could leave it sitting on a coffee table or somewhere similar but understand that it would not fool anyone lying out on the table on its own. If you look close enough the book will not pass the “fake test.”

You could get round this by placing some papers, a few envelopes, invoices, etc on the top of the dictionary to make it blend into its surroundings.

Some Put-offs about this Diversion Safe

What will stand out immediately is the fact that the pages look quite fake. It is basically a solid white piece of plastic with some ridges cut into it. This will not be an issue if you place the book on a shelf stashed with some other books.

If the book is picked up and shaken whatever is inside will actually rattle about because the interior lockbox is made of metal; it has not been lined with felt. This isn’t a problem if you just plan on storing paperwork or paper money but anything else will most likely make a noise.

A way round this would be to cut out some foam or bubble wrap and glue it to the inside. That will help with any noise issues.

Regarding the cover itself, it actually sits flush with the side of the safe which may make it difficult for some people to open. Of course, the solution to this would be to just use the key in the lock to lift the lid.

Some past customers have mentioned how some of the binding comes apart in places. If this does happen then again the best thing to do is use glue and hope it does the trick. Anyway, a book that looks a little tattered may blend in better.

Diversion Safe
Conclusion

For the price, this is a pretty good book diversion safe. It does what it is supposed to and if you find a good place to stash it then there is very little chance of anyone getting suspicious about it. I think it especially an ideal gift for youngsters to stash their small items.

All kids love secret hideaways. A boy or girl could keep their diary in there with some jewellery or pocket money. Adults could use it for stashing emergency money or various documentation. I personally wouldn’t keep items such as birth certificates or passports in there just because of the fact that the book safe is not fireproof.

I think this would be useful to have in your home in addition to a few other diversion safes to keep all your important items spread out around your home. Other stash safes could be the Barbasol Diversion Can Safe or Dr Pepper Diversion Can Safe or even another variety of book safe.

Pros

  • Blends in well on a bookshelf.
  • Is reasonably priced.
  • You get 2 keys. You can use one as a spare.
  • Is pretty sturdy for a book safe.

Cons

  • The pages are plastic and look fake. Due to this the best place for this product is on a bookshelf.
  • Some of the binding has been known to come off in time.
  • The key lock is very basic but for a diversion safe I would say it does its job.
