Gunvault GV1000C-DLX Gun Safe Review

Gunvault GV1000C-DLX
Gunvault GV1000C-DLX Gun Safe

This Gunvault GV1000C-DLX is another popular model from the portable compact safe range. It is an upgrade to Deluxe from the standard C model and as with most of the Gunvault safes; this comes with quite a few nice little features.

All Deluxe models, such as this one, have interior lighting, a motion detector and an AC external power supply.

Some people may confuse this with a biometric safe or fingerprint scanner safe. With its modern looking finger-pad or No-Eyes keypad, that is an easy mistake to make. But in fact the locking mechanism is actually activated by pressing the right combination of buttons on the pad. Just as quick and easy but a little different.

Let’s take a closer look at this safe.

Who Can Benefit From The Gunvault GV1000C-DLX?

Gunvault GV1000-DLX Fingerpad

For those of you with young children and even those of you who don’t have children, you understand the concerns of accidental shootings within the home. Every year there are reports of children finding their parents gun in a drawer somewhere and playing with it until it accidentally goes off in their face.

Firearms need to be safely and securely locked away regardless of whether you have children in the home or not. You will specifically need a gun safe that would allow you to store a handgun in the bedroom in a safe manner but still would allow for quick access.

If your gun isn’t on your hip, then it should be safely stored in a gun safe, particularly if you’ve got kids who might get a hold of it inappropriately. You will need a safe that is made of strong materials and is small enough to tuck away from site yet big enough to store a good sized handgun and its ammo.

The Gunvault GV1000C-DLX mini vault offers all of this and a little more. It is aimed squarely at safe storage for a single pistol that can be got to quickly in an emergency. This is a good choice for any prospective buyer of a quick access gun safe.

Gunvault GV1000D-DLX Construction And Design

The exterior of the vault is constructed from 16 gauge steel putting it just below mid range for toughness in small safes as a whole. As a small or portable mini vault this Gunvault range can be considered one of the toughest. As with all the mini vault safes this Deluxe model before it has been designed and fitted to ensure that it is nearly impossible to pry open with hand tools.

As mentioned above, this is not meant for storing a collection of handguns. It is a compact unit and therefore designed to accommodate one or two guns with ammo. This is fairly important because if an emergency arises you are going to need to get to your gun fast. This means keeping your safe organized and uncluttered.

At 8.1 x 4.9 x 12 inches it is small enough to keep on a shelf or in a top compartment of a cupboard somewhere without taking up too much space, and big enough to hold a full-size semi-auto and a compact revolver. Depending on the model of the gun of course.

To add an even higher level of security the Gunvault GV1000C-DLX mini vault has knockout holes in the bottom to permanently affix it to something solid. I would highly recommend this as a determined thief with enough time could walk off with the whole safe, contents and all. This will never happen if you take the time to mount and bolt it to the floor.

There is also an optional high-strength security cable that comes with this model which secures the gun safe in the home, car, RV, office or motel, etc. It is mountable in any direction. I personally would use this in addition to mounting the safe. Better to be over prepared than unprepared.

Gunvault GV1000C-DLX Lock And Extra Features

The locking mechanism is High-Strength and performs reliably. There is no need to worry if you are not electronically minded as the programming is very simple to set up. The “Learn buttons” make it easy to program over 12 million user-selectable access codes. All is explained in the user manual.

The Gunvault patented No-eyes keypad allows for fast access to your weapon even in total darkness which may happen to be the case in an emergency. Because of the shaped out grooves your fingers will find the buttons very easily and very fast.

It is also fitted with a motion detection alarm should someone try to move your safe whilst armed. Another feature is the audio feedback which lets you know when a correct key has been pressed. There is also an audio disable option should you need to access the safe without alerting others.

A tamper indicator and its inbuilt computer will block access after repeated invalid keypad entries.  A very cool feature especially if a burglar or even your child has a go at trying to figure out the code.

The Gunvault GV1000C-DLX portable safe runs off eight AA batteries and also the option to switch to the AC adapter if you hate buying batteries. One thing I will note. The batteries can be a little tricky to put in but with a little practice it won’t be a big deal. Also, the batteries probably won’t need to be changed that often. The audio low battery warning should help with this.

To prevent any of your handguns or valuables from being scratched there is a soft foam on the inside. Additionally, Gunvault also had the good sense to add an interior courtesy light which I think is a nice little touch to an already full featured gun safe.

Conclusion

Gunvault is well known for making high quality products aimed at ensuring safe and secure weapon storage and this Gunvault GV1000C-DLX is no exception.

As with all safes this isn’t without its little teething problems but with its strong build, tough locking mechanism, fast access keypad and much more you can’t ask for a better gun safe in this price range.

You have the option of buying the standard versions from this particular mini vault range but to be honest I would pay the extra to get the deluxe model. The extra little features like the included AC adaptor and in-built light all make a difference in the overall quality of this item.

Motion Detection And Alarm Features Of The Deluxe Model

This Gunvault GV1000C-Deluxe Model has a couple of very important extra features that add to the quality of this safe. It is equipped with a motion detector and an audio alarm. All you have to do is set up the vault so that it is in motion detector and alarm modes. Once this is done this safe will protect its contents if either one of the following occurs:

  1. If someone punches in 24 wrong entries into the keypad in succession.
  2. If the safe is moved or disturbed. So once the safe has been set to detection and alarm mode any shock, vibration or movement of any kind will set off the alarm. You have a short period of time to enter a valid code into the system, (refer to the user manual). If you do this within the allocated timeframe then the alarm will stop.

  1. The manuals at the link [http://www.gunvault.com/skin/frontend/gunvault/gunvault/pdf/GunVaultManualGV1000_GV2000.pdf] that you give in your web site do NOT include a manual for the original GunVault GV1000C that uses eight AA batteries described in your web site. (The linked web site covers the newer versions that use one 9-volt battery.)

I have the original model, and I was unable to find a manual for it when I was trying to figure out how to replace the AA batteries yesterday; so I emailed the GunVault customer services.

The nice lady at GunVault sent me a pdf file of the front sheet of a manual for the original model, but she said that she did not have anything more.

What she sent was helpful, but did not address how to replace the batteries—but I figured it out.

    Thanks.

  2. I have an original GV1000-DLX and need to replace the batteries but have lost the original instructions.

Can anyone tell me how to replace them?

    Thank you

  3. I have a GV1000C-DLX, my second one and I’m quite disappointed in the things. The lock release cable, (part of the mechanism to unlock the door) is broken on my second safe.
Not a good situation if I should have needed quick access to pistol. I was getting it out to clean and had to use the key to open.
A not to those with battery issues; bit the bullet as they say and use Energizer lithium batterys. They last forever it seems.

Will not be buying another gunvault brand due to these unpredictable lock failures.
