Features and Design

Overall design is very attractive, combining the charm of an antique look with a touch of modern features. Built quality is a bargain for the price asked: materials used in production have a nice solid feel. The door seems to be really heavy, leaving a feeling that the rest of the safe is made of thinner metal; however, at nearly 250 pounds empty weight, this safe could be a real challenge to haul around.

The inside of the safe is fully carpeted, making interior look soft and finished. Adjustable shelf positioning allows for individual configuration, based on your needs at the moment. Shelves are covered with a felt liner, adding on to overall looks.

Generous size permits storing nearly everything, but you should keep in mind that manufacturer does not recommend keeping electronic devices, hard drives and photo negatives, as those may not survive the rated internal temperature in case of a fire.

Floor mounting is a must; otherwise the safety and security features may be compromised. Bolting it to the floor is more difficult than it initially seems to be, considering the weight of the safe and rather unclear mounting instructions. All Stack-On Elite safes have pre-drilled holes and come with mounting hardware, yet most consumers find it a challenge to properly mount this safe.

This fire-resistant safe meets all requirement set by Penal Code section 23655 in the State of California as a firearm safety device. Having been tested in independent lab (ETL), Stack-On E-040-SB-E is rated to protect stored valuables in an open flame for up to 30 minutes.

Electronic lock is state-of-art and is designed to include highly sought-after features to include battery change option without opening the safe, setting your own keypad combination, drill-resistant design featuring a steel plate behind the lock for added protection, and 2-way locking mechanism.

Trouble key is included, allowing to by-pass electronic protection – you just have to insure it is stored separately and secure. Heavy 1½ inch locking bolts, extended by a large handle, securely seal the door, ensuring solid protection against theft.

Warranty

Stack-On Products Company provides a 5-year warranty along with a limited lifetime guarantee extendable only to original purchasers in North-American market. Manufacturer claims materials and workmanship to be free of any defects in the first five years of proper use, backing it up with a product replacement or a purchase price refund.

In addition to a basic warranty, Stack-On promises to repair or replace a safe in case of a fire or theft damage; however, unlike some other safe manufacturers in the U.S. market, company does not provide any insurance against damage of the personal property in the safe.

Things to consider

While Stack-On Elite Junior Executive Fire Safe is mostly marketed as a gun safe, most hunters find it challenging to store their rifles in a safe that is about 35 inches tall. Scope stand-off and pistol door organizer are options, making it even less appealing for gun collectors. Should you truly be an avid hunter, you may consider looking for taller safe models that are better suited to organize your rifles, shotguns and pistols.
